another boring day of school was all i could think as the teacher spoke about what the geometry problem meant. i mean, why should i care? it's not like i'm ever going to use it again. . . i hope. it was the beginning of my senior year and i wasn't exactly as pumped as my best friend, naruto, who was bouncing out of his seat about it being his last year.
but, of course, there is one good thing about it being my last year. getting away from my family. since the thought of my family made me want to punch the dobe sitting next to me i tried to catch up on the lesson at hand.
" . . . and if you see here that the six is-" but before he could make it even more the door clicked open by someone trying to get into the senior first period. but, instead of another average teacher, the intimidating principle or an annoying fangirl stood a figure that i wasn't even able to label.
her long pink hair that caressed over her left shoulder, her bright emerald irises gleamed in the light, creamy skin not even fazed by the tragedy of puberty and pale pink lips shaped perfectly to her beautiful features.
"yes, miss haruno. how may i help you?" the teacher asked as she walked from the door's brooding frame and towards the adult who was blessed to be in this angel's pure presence.
"sorry for interrupting," her entrancing voice slipped from her lips, but judging from the looks from the other male and seething female students no one minded at all. "mr. sarutobi was wondering if you happened to have a copy of your notes over last weeks lesson."
"oh, yes of course" the teacher replied as he walked over to his desk and sakura stood in the same perfect position she didn't even have to try doing.
"hi sakura!!" naruto exclaimed from his seat next to me.
she turned her head to see the two boys she knew and gave them both a smile and a soft, "hello naruto, sasuke."
all i could do was look down at the suddenly interesting lines of the wooden desk. but before i could finally tell myself i'm a man and should just stare her on, the teacher found his page of notes and slowly handed them into her fragile hands.
"thank you, mr. hatake" she smiled and soon left the room of poor men who had just saw the only angel existing on this planet.
i was still a little dazed from the whole first period thing so i wasn't really paying attention when i heard naruto say, " . . . i'm gay."
i blinked and bolted up yelling, "what?!"
i got weird glances from all three guys sitting at the table and finally neji asked, "what, what?" okay, that was seriously not helping my confusion.
"dude, i knew you were a little weird but i didn't know your door swung that way" i said idnoring neji's confusing question and turning to my best friend.
"what do you mean?"
"i mean you just said 'i'm gay'."
"no, you know this is why i really hate when you blink out and always come back in at the worst times. i mean just like at the christmas party last year when-"
"okay, just tell me what you were gonna say!!" i interrupted trying to block out that memory.
"i was talkin' about when we were at the after party of the football game on saturday sai was so stoned he was running around the whole neighborhood yelling 'i am so gay!' and he actually ended up chasing this twelve year old boy down the street trying to explain his love for him."
we were all silent till shikamaru muttered from his sleeping position, "poor kid. he'll never be the same."
we all nodded our agreement.
when we all had five minutes of silence, we all noticed a pack of four girls walking around outside in the courtyard. all that we knew.
ino, with her long blond hair pulled into a tight ponytail letting her long bangs hang over her bright blue eyes. she was sakura's best friend and actually had a scholarship for her designs of clothing. though she was also interested in flower arranging and a side job of trying to match up couples. she has been shikamaru's girlfriend since ninth grade.
hinata, she had mid-back length dark midnight blue hair and her bangs were cut straight across her forehead making sure not to hide her pale orbs. she was also one of ino and sakura's friends and was known for being very shy and being naruto's girlfriend. she was also to inherit her family's company from her father as soon as he retires.
tenten, her brunet hair always pulled into two buns and her chocolate eyes that always seemed to be challenging every guy she saw. except for neji of course. she was being recruited by a bunch of universities for her many talents in sports, fighting and weapon wielding.
then, you already met sakura. and, she was probably the most special girl out of all the girls on campus. she was the daughter of a famous medical mother and musician father. she was skilled in medical back rounds, but some how that always seemed to be something she wasn't really wanting to do. though, she has changed since her father died last year. he was in a car accident and her mother had to operate on him even though he didn't even make it to the hospital.
i don't know, sakura is different then the other girls. especially since she doesn't swam at me like hungry hienas. she always knew the exact thing to say and how to say it. it was weird, i have never been around someone like that and it makes me feel . . . comfortable.
as i watched her slowly say good-bye to the girls i stood up and ignoring the questions from my friends i walked closer to her. i didn't even know what i was doing. it was like my body was acting on its own.
"sakura" i yelled after her.
she turned to look at me with a smile and replied, "what is it, sasuke?"
"uh, i was wondering if, uh . . . "
"yeah?" she asked again.
"do you wanna, maybe, go out with me tonight?"
'what?!' i thought to myself. 'what am i doing?'
"really?" she asked.
"of course" she smiled again.
"alright, i'll pick you up around six."
"your going on a date?!" all of the guys yelled at me as i threw the football to naruto.
"yeah" i said slowly.
"with sakura?!" they continued.
"mm hm" i muttered as i caught the ball hard into my chest.
"okay, how long are these questions going to go on?" i asked them getting annoyed.
"well, what do you expect. your the quarterback who has never had or wanted a girlfriend and now you going on a date with the girl you have known since you were a kid" shikamaru pointed out and that made me raise an eyebrow.
"come on guys, can't you just act like real friends and say 'goncrates dude'" i said exhasperated.
"fine, what are you planing to do?" neji asked me.
that made me stop and admit, "i don't know."
"of course not."
"alright, so today we are going to talk about a subject and we're all going to give our separate opinions" the teacher announced to the class.
i was sitting next to sakura and i was still captivated by what i was going to do for our date tonight. so i wasn't really into the whole discussion thing.
"so, our topic is 'what we think life is'" the teacher told everyone. "who would like to go first?"
when no one said anything i saw the hand raise from beside me and knew exactly who was going to get the first word in.
"yes, ms. haruno."
"well," she started to explain. " i think life is like a swing set."
that made everyone look at her. another thing i love about her, so unpredictable.
"hm, never heard this one before. please, explain" the teacher gestured.
"well, it's like when you were a kid. how high will i go, how fast will i go if i twist the chain, how far can i jump off of it. it all about guesses and what you think you will accomplish by your actions and what you want to do. that maybe there doesn't need to be a strict fact behind everything in the world and you just need to think that you can do it and that's all your going to need."
i blinked. so did everyone, including the teacher. i mean, it was a weird statement but after she explained it, i have to say. . . it made total sense. then it hit me, i knew exactly what i was going to do for our date.
LATER THAT NIGHT
after looking in a mirror for an hour i finally was able to look at my jeans, white Tshirt and jacket and hope it's alright.
so, when i knocked on the door i was surprised to see her wearing skinny jeans a Tshirt and her jacket. i don't know why i was just taken aback.
"hey" she said smiling.
"H-hi" i blinked. i just stuttered. . . what is the world coming to?!
so, i made sure to be completely quiet while we drove the total five minutes away from her house. and as we parked she finally asked, "so what are we doing?"
"well, i was thinking about what you said in class today and realized the perfect thing to do."
but before she could ask something else, she turned to see a small swing set sitting in the middle of an old playground at the park.
she smiled at me and said, "no way."
we walked over to the swing set and she sat on the first one and i started to push her. and for the first time in a while, i laughed. i soon went over to the second swing and stood on it and slowly rocked back and forth.
"your going to kill yourself if you do that" she laughed.
"oh, i'm fine."
after a few moments of no conversation i said, "so, i hear you got a scholarship for your medical talents."
she stopped for a moment and said, "Y-yeah."
"so, i thought you would be a little happier."
"I-i am, it's just . . . "
"it's just, it's what my mom wants me to do. i mean, . . . "
"you don't want to?"
"i do, it's just that i have something else i got excepted into that i like better."
"what is it?"
"i have been experienced in music since i was barley able to walk. my dad thought me everything and he worked there for a while and supported them so they have had their eyes on me for a while."
i stopped and stared at her as she looked at the gravel her feet were sinking into. i slowly slipped of the swing and walked in front of her and put my hands on her chains and pushed her up so her swing was holding her back and she was standing in front of me.
"that's amazing" i told her. that at least got me a small smile.
"yeah, but my mom would never allow it."
"because, she doesn't want me to be like my dad. she thinks i'm going to end up like him in the end."
that made me stare her head on.
"do you believe that?" i asked her.
"no" she said blinking back tears.
"then, don't listen to your mom. she's crazy to say that. it's your life not her's. live it the way you want to." i told her. "live like your on a swing set."
she smiled at me and whispered, "thanks."
soon i realized i was inches away from her and before i knew it i was even closer. our lips met and i swear it was the best moment of my life. the feel of her lips against mine, the way she tasted sour and yet sweet, the way she kissed me back.
i have to say, i kinda wanna live in this swing set world more often.
